How can we help you?
We are happy to answer questions about our services and procedures.
These are a selection of some common questions that patients have. If your question isn't answered here, please contact our office. It's important to us that our patients understand their dental care.
Dental implants have several advantages over other tooth replacement options:
Dental implants appear the most life-like and natural.
The actual implant piece of the dental implant is made of titanium, a biocompatible metal.
Dental implants are the most secure and stable.
Dental implants prevent bone loss, keeping your jaw tissue healthy and preventing changes in the shape of your face.
With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime.
Our practice recognizes the value of insurance benefits and will happily work with you to ensure you receive the maximum insurance benefit possible. This includes processing insurance claims for insurance providers outside of network, while providing you with an estimate of your deductible and co-payment prior to initiating any procedure.
Dental insurance provides varying degrees of coverage depending on the network and procedure, and as such we ensure patients have transparency into their fees and payment schedules prior to initiating any treatment. Once treatment is agreed upon, the deductible and co-payment (the portion the insurance does not cover) are due at the time services are rendered. For multi- visit procedures (crowns, dentures, implants), your co-payment, which is usually half of the total fee, is expected at the start of the procedure. Cosmetic dentistry such as veneers and whitening treatments are usually not covered by insurance.
Shaw Family Smiles believes that insurance should never dictate the quality or timing of your treatment. In line with our family approach, we promise to collaborate with patients to address any concerns about financing treatment, particularly extensive or long term dental care, in order to find a solution that ensures patient health.
We offer a range of cosmetic dentistry services such as veneers, porcelain crowns, bonding using tooth-colored composite, and even orthodontic treatments like Invisalign. All our of dentistry is done with an eye toward aesthetics. We know that it's important that your teeth are both healthy and attractive. If you'd like to find out which of our services can help you meet your goals, call our office to schedule your consultation.
If you are in pain, then you are having a dental emergency. Call us right away so that we can examine you, diagnose the problem, and create a treatment plan. Other signs that indicate the need for an emergency appointment include:
- A pimple-like lesion on your gum
- A broken or cracked tooth
- A foreign object lodged between your teeth
- Swelling in the gum
- A broken or lost dental restoration such as a filling or a crown
There are many reasons your gums could bleed, but in any case you should see a dentist to determine the cause and treatment options as gum condition is closely tied to overall health.
In some cases, if you experience bleeding from your gums when you brush, it may be a sign of gingivitis, the early stage of more serious periodontal disease. Gingivitis is reversible and preventable if effectively treated in consultation with your dentist. You may also experience bleeding if you begin a regimen of flossing, which should dissipate in a week or two.
